Florida 2-15 vs 2-14 vs 2-40: Which Insurance License Is Right for You?

Florida offers several insurance license types, but three stand above the rest for new agents entering the health and life space: the 2-15, 2-14, and 2-40. Choosing the right one determines what you can sell, who you can serve, and how fast you can start earning commissions.

The Florida 2-40 — Health Only Specialist

The 2-40 is the fastest path to licensure for candidates focused exclusively on health insurance. It covers individual and group health policies, Medicare supplement, long-term care, and disability income. The exam is 165 questions over 2.5 hours. If you want to work in Medicare Advantage, ACA marketplace plans, or employer group health, this is your starting point.

Best for: Candidates focused on health products, Medicare sales, or ACA marketplace

The Florida 2-14 — Life and Variable Annuities

The 2-14 license covers life insurance policies and variable annuity products. It requires a FINRA securities background for the variable components. The exam covers policy types, underwriting, retirement concepts, annuities, and Florida DFS regulations.

Best for: Candidates interested in life insurance, annuity sales, or financial planning

The Florida 2-15 — The Full Package

The 2-15 is the most comprehensive Florida insurance license — it includes life, health, and variable annuities all in one. It's the hardest exam (165 questions, 2 hours 45 minutes) but gives you the widest product portfolio. Most Copeland Insurance Agency agents pursue the 2-15.

Best for: Candidates who want to sell life AND health products and maximize earning potential
